Late this week, the CDC said it had added 12 more people to the list of people who have been infected with Salmonella Braenderup, stemming from eggs that came from the Rose Acre Farms facility in Hyde County, N.C.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday those infected with salmonella had reported feeling ill between November 16, 2017 and April 14.
Nine states have reported illnesses: Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and SC.
The CDC said last week that it "continues to recommend consumers, restaurants, and retailers should not eat, serve, or sell recalled eggs produced by Rose Acre Farms' Hyde County farm".
In grocery stores, the eggs were sold under the following brands: Country Daybreak; Crystal Farms; Coburn Farms; Sunshine Farms; Glenview; Great Value (Walmart's store brand), and Food Lion's store brand. The eggs were delivered to multiple supermarket chains and even directly to some restaurants. No deaths have been reported, according to the CDC. Out of the 25 sickened individuals who provided complete details, 22 people, or 88 percent, said that they fell ill after eating shell eggs. Days later, Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. issued its own recall for 23,400 dozen eggs that it bought from the farm.
U.S. intercepts Russian bombers off Alaska's coast
F-33 Stealth fighter jets fired warning flares after Russian Su-25 jets entered an agreed deconfliction area in Syrian airspace. The U.S. fighter jets did not get closer then 100 meters to the Russian bombers, the Russian military was quoted as saying.
The eggs, while produced in North Carolina, are owned by Rose Farms, an in based company. The possibly tainted eggs were distributed from the farm between January 11 and April 12.
Salmonella causes serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
Salmonella is a bacterial infection that causes symptoms such as a diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.
Chickens can pass the bacteria to eggs because eggs leave hens through the same passageway as feces.
