President Hassan Rouhani spoke with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan by telephone and described the latest developments in the country and said: "We are happy that the wish and will of people were peacefully met".
Pashinyan, the leader of the Armenian opposition, was elected Armenia's prime minister on May 8. He and his supporters had pressured the country's long-term leader, Serzh Sargsyan, to step down rather than seek a power grab.
Felicitating Nikol Pashinyan on his election as Armenia's Prime Minister, Ambassador Farnworth noted that the British government is prepared to take specific steps to develop relations with Armenia.
"Like before, we are ready to expand and deepen our relations with Armenia in all fields", he said.
The new Prime Minister told about the plans of his government "to give impetus to trade and economic relations" with the Russian Federation, including in military-technical and tourism industry.

The warm tone of the May 14 meeting on the sidelines of a summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi was in line with previous comments by Putin and Pashinian, who has repeatedly said that Armenia will not turn its back on Russian Federation - a far larger and more powerful country that has a major military base in the smaller nation.
".We really appreciate the balanced position which Russian Federation adopted during our domestic crisis", said Pashinyan.
On 14 September 2017, the party, led by Pashinyan, put forward a bill to parliament on Armenia's exit from the EEU.
After the "velvet revolution" victory, Pashinyan did not make such harsh criticisms of the Eurasian Economic Union. But there is also something which does not need to be discussed.
"We will be just as active in the worldwide arena, starting from the United Nations where Armenia and Russian Federation always support each other", he added.
