Lewis Hamilton stormed to victory in the 2018 Spanish Grand Prix, leading from start to finish and subsequently stretching his lead at the top of the drivers championship to 17 points.

At Toro Rosso, F2 driver Sean Gelael will get behind the wheel of an F1 challenger again before Pierre Gasly - who suffered an unfortunate lap-one collision in Sunday's Barcelona race - takes his seat.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) - Mercedes got the commanding victory it had been seeking all season.

Valtteri Bottas was celebrating second place on the podium this weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix.

McLaren have opted for 2018 driver Stoffel Vandoorne to begin their testing session, before Formula 2 championship leader Lando Norris gets his third taste of the team's F1 auto - he tested for the Woking squad in both Hungary and Abu Dhabi last season. Team boss Toto Wolff said the team's focus had been on beating Ferrari over the past month and would switch to contract talks when a better opportunity arises.

"Honestly I think Monaco is going to be hard for us", he said after Sunday's race. "This is what we will do and we will let you know as soon as possible".

"Obviously it looked like from the outside they [Mercedes] had a stronger weekend, without any big issues, but we need to look at ourselves, focus on our vehicle and our problems, so we'll be stronger again".

Reigning world champion Hamilton has less than a year left on his Mercedes contract, but the 33-year-old says that a new deal will be signed soon.

Hamilton had a mixed start to the 2018 Formula 1 campaign, taking a sole pole and win from the opening four rounds, explaining that he had not felt fully comfortable in Mercedes' W09 across rounds in Bahrain, China and Azerbaijan.

Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini named new Italy manager
Since leaving Etihad Stadium in 2013, Mancini also managed Galatasaray and Inter Milan before joining Zenit in June 2017. Four-time World Cup winners Italy missed out on this summer's World Cup after losing to Sweden in the play-offs.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was a track where Mercedes was expected to run well, but the next race is in Monaco, where the team has struggled in recent years.

Mercedes have recently struggled on the street circuit in Monte Carlo and Hamilton predicts that Red Bull will provide strong competition in the principality.

"As much as we are overwhelmed by the victory in Barcelona, my mind is already in Monaco and I remember Sunday night wasn't as pleasant a year ago".

Hamilton qualified only 14th and finished seventh in Monaco in 2017.

Of course, Hamilton's situation out front was made all the more rewarding by his main title rival Sebastian Vettel's need to stop twice, opposed to other's once, and drop from second to fourth come the checkered flag.

"I only said that we are loyal first of all to our drivers". Hamilton set blindingly fast sector times throughout the race regardless of tyre-type, and it is going to be dashed hard for Vettel to claw back this advantage.

Ferrari and Red Bull are both hot on their heels and the battle between the 3 teams will be fierce.

"In the end we weren't quick enough and our tires didn't last as long as others".
