More than 100 women have since accused the twice-married 66-year-old of misconduct going back 40 years and ranging from sexual harassment to assault and rape.

A law enforcement official says he will face criminal sex act and rape charges, according to AP.

It was reported earlier this week that federal prosecutors in NY had launched an inquiry into the allegations, which is separate from the investigation now under way by the Manhattan District Attorney, the film producer's lawyer said in a court filing.

In a statement to ABC News, Ben Brafman, an attorney for Weinstein said at the time, "Mr. Weinstein denies Rose McGowan's allegations of non-consensual sexual contact and it is erroneous and irresponsible to conflate claims of inappropriate behavior and consensual sexual contact later regretted, with an untrue claim of rape".

He agreed to pay $1 million in cash as part of a prenegotiated bail package, with a Manhattan judge also ordering him to wear an electronic monitor and surrender his passport.

One official said it's likely the case also will include at least one other victim who has not come forward publicly.

Harvey Weinstein has arrived at a police station in NY where he is expected to surrender himself to face criminal charges in a sexual assault probe. "I thank the fearless survivors who have come forward, and my Office's prosecutors who have worked tirelessly on this investigation".

"Not in a million years, and one of the hardest conversations I had over and over again with these courageous women was that in addition to the sacrifice they were making in telling this story, they didn't think they would ever be heard if they did take that leap, let alone to see actual accountability", Farrow told CNN.

'Mr Weinstein is out of state we would need an arrest warrant, to arrest him.

The public allegations against Weinstein helped prompt a broad public reckoning about sexual misconduct.

Weinstein had been a powerful force in the entertainment world until last year's series of investigative stories from the Times and the New Yorker that detailed accusations of sexual misconduct made by several women.

He has previously denied all accusations of sexual assault.

"I know how this has changed my life for the worse", she said.

The two spoke for a bit and then, according to Evans, Weinstein pulled out his penis and forced her to perform oral sex on him inside the office.

She had first detailed the alleged sexual assault in an interview with The New Yorker last October.

According to the Times' Ben Mueller, one of the two women cited in the charges is actress Lucia Evans, who told her story to journalist Ronan Farrow in The New Yorker past year. It's amusing, all these unrelated things I did to hurt myself because of this one thing, ' said Evans. More than 75 women have accused him of wrongdoing.

There is no statute of limitations on rape, criminal sexual act or aggravated sexual abuse in the first degree in the state of NY.

NY police have also confirmed a credible rape allegation against Weinstein after "Boardwalk Empire" actress Paz de la Huerta accused him of raping her twice at her NY apartment in late 2010.
