It is just another milestone for Avengers: Infinity War.
All three of those films were released in December, which makes "Infinity War" the first film released outside of the holiday season to make $2 billion globally, when not accounting for inflation.
Internationally, Infinity War is the third highest grossing release ever with $1.346B.
Both the Avengers 4 writers and Chris Hemsworth have said the next movie is bigger than Infinity War.
‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Soars to $2 Billion at Worldwide Box Office
Infinity War is already, of course, Marvel Studios' highest-grossing release of all-time, besting the final global totals of its previous megamovie offerings, 2012's The Avengers ($1.5 billion) and 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion), as well as this past February's cultural breakthrough hit, Black Panther ($1.345 billion).
Internationally, it is the third-highest grossing release ever with $1.346 billion, and its combined domestic and worldwide debuts set a record of $640.5 million.
These are just some of the box office records and Hollywood history book entries that Infinity War can lay claim to now, as the full list is just staggeringly long. Black Panther remains the top grossing Marvel title stateside and is fighting its way to the $700M finish line, now at $699.4M, third highest of all-time after Force Awakens ($936.6M) and Avatar ($760.5M). It's now the third highest-grossing offshore release of all time behind Avatar ($2.027 billion), and Titanic ($1.528 billion). Infinity War also holds the record for the biggest domestic debut ever with $257.7 million in its opening weekend.
Much of Infinity War's total has come from global box office receipts, particularly in China, where it's earned $369.7 million and become the country's third highest-grossing film ever. Infinity War was a top performer in China, opening to the sweet tune of a reported $200 million, as well as in the United Kingdom, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia, among others.
