As reported by Variety, Neal Boyd, the opera singer who came in first place on season three of America's Got Talent, has died in Sikeston, Miss. today, at the age of 42.

Mr. Boyd won the network TV show and its $1 million prize in 2008.

Boyd was found unresponsive by his mother at her Sikestown, Mo., home and was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m. Boyd's high-profile win was so iconic for his hometown that it constituted Sikeston to rebrand October 2008 as "Neal E. Boyd month".

Boyd announced on his official Facebook page in May that he was raising money to record a new album and said he was still recovering from a near-fatal 2017 auto accident.
