Of course, McGregor's now-infamous UFC 223 media-day caused things to go south, but in an interview with MMAFighting's Ariel Helwani, dos Anjos made it clear that he will be there if McGregor ever wants the welterweight belt for his collection.
Somewhat surprisingly, Covington started swinging for the fences early doors, landing solid left and right hands before putting dos Anjos on his back. I don't want to just go up there and get two belts to say I got it.
The final round saw Covington attempting another takedown, but dos Anjos was able to stay on his feet.
The pair were famously set to face off for the lightweight title at UFC 196 before RDA broke his foot a month out and Nate Diaz stepped in to upset the Irishman. Rafael Dos Anjos is 28-9 and a slight favorite at -120. Covington landed and went right back to the pressure game that had worked so well for him throughout the fight. With a quick submission win over Neil Magny by arm triangle at UFC 215 and a dominant 5 round decision win over former champion Robbie Lawler at UFC Fight Night Winnipeg, Rafael Dos Anjos propelled himself to the top of the welterweight division and next in line for a shot at Tyron Woodley.

Dos Anjos jumped into a attractive flying knee, but it didn't land correctly and Covington was able to pounce and pull dos Anjos to the mat briefly. I wouldn't mind fighting RDA [Rafael dos Anjos], Colby [Covington], [Kamaru] Usman, [Darren] Till, and at that point, unless another prospect emerges, I've cleaned out the division and I'm the greatest welterweight of all time at that point.
Covington (13-1) is one of the UFC's most outspoken fighters, but that hasn't always been positive.
