The North American bid beat competition from Morocco, which was hoping to become just the second African country to host soccer's biggest worldwide tournament. North America's bid won the vote in the first round, and with surprising ease: 134 votes to Morocco's 65.
"We are very excited and humbled that the FIFA member associations have entrusted the Concacaf region with the honour of hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup in its new extended format", CONCACAF said in a statement. "Football today is the only victor".
Of the 211 Fifa member nations, 200 cast a vote at the 68th Fifa Congress in Moscow on Wednesday, with the winning bid needing a majority of 104.
The Egyptian national team have continued their preparations in their training camp in Grozny, Russia ahead of their opening game against Uruguay on June 15 in the 2018 World Cup's Group A. Under the United Bid proposal, the list of host cities for the world's most watched sporting event likely will include two or three in Canada, three in Mexico and 10 in the United States. The US, however, hosted the country on its own merit in 1994, while Mexico have twice before organised the tournament, in 1970 and in 1986.
Canada staged the Women's World Cup in 2015.
They warned "the amount of new infrastructure required for the Morocco 2026 bid to become reality can not be overstated".
The 80 matches in the 2026 tournament, involving an expanded roster of 48 teams, will be held in stadiums scattered throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Morocco's bid promised $5 billion in profit, but admitted needing to spend $16 billion on building stadiums and infrastructure. "There is no doubt that World Cup 2026 will elevate the sport of soccer to entirely new levels and Major League Soccer is honored to be a part of this joyous day".
