Chris became a hurricane as it moved away from the United States late yesterday afternoon.
The hurricane has caused no coastal watches or warnings to come into effect, however weather authorities have warned anybody seeking to paddle out in the wake of Chris for recreation.
"Sometimes there are no systems steering other systems around an advancing tropical storm or hurricane and that allows it to wobble a little bit and that can change the expected track", explained SaltWire Network meteorologist Cindy Day July 10.
The storm will generate risky surf conditions and life-threatening rip currents along the North Carolina and mid-Atlantic coasts the next few days as it continues to speed away from the US, forecasters said. The hurricane has reached winds of 85 miles per hour, making it a Category 1 storm and the second named hurricane for the Atlantic season. Its center will be near southeastern Newfoundland on Thursday night. The system is now moving north at about 16 miles per hour into the southern Bahamas.

"We continue to monitor, but based on current forecasts we do not expect the storm to affect our offshore operations", ExxonMobil spokesman Merle MacIsaac said in an email, referring to the Sable project.
It could strengthen to a category 1 hurricane by early Wednesday morning, but is not expected to make landfall anywhere in the U.S.
The hurricane center has said Beryl has an opportunity to regenerate later this week as it moves slowly northward in the western Atlantic, where conditions are forecast to be more favorable.
