Though the incident is unacceptable and upsetting, it's not entirely surprising that this unnamed man questioned her citizenship.
"Had he been a black man coming at a white woman, I swear he would have done something", Irizarry tells the camera at one point.
"Then you should not be wearing that".
"Officer, I'm renting this area and he's harassing me about the shirt I'm wearing, ' Irizzary then tells the cop, who had already been called to the scene to investigate Trybus" intoxicated behavior. She said the group politely complied but her Puerto Rico shirt appeared to act as a trigger to the man.
"You're not going to change us", Trybus is heard saying in the video. "If you're an American citizen, you should not be wearing that shirt in America".
In the video, Connor watched as Trybus said things like "Are you a citizen?"
Irizarry replies she's not trying to change anyone and is just trying to attend a birthday party.
"Officer, I'm renting - I paid for a permit for this area, I do not feel comfortable with him here, is there anything you can do?" she said. The video opened with the man approaching the woman, identified as Mia Irizarry, to dispute the status of Puerto Rico. Like this guy is just walking up to me.
She says a police officer was nearby, watching the encounter.
The investigators are expected to interview the officer this week about the incident, adding that the investigation would wrap up soon.
"Hopefully, this officer will actually do something", Irizarry is heard saying when the second officer arrives.

As the pair disagree over Georgia's date with Jack, the atmosphere in the villa heats up and things begin to kick off. The bottom three couples were Megan and Alex, Ellie and Sam and Darylle and Adam.
Irizarry responded by saying that Puerto Rico is part of the USA, and then asked an officer for help.
That's when the officer finally speaks up, telling the brother to "relax".
Several minutes later, other police officers arrived to arrest Trybus.
The video shows him asking whether or not the woman has US citizenship. He asks her if she is an American citizen, to which she responds that she is.
Trybus was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct, according to the Forest Preserves.
The officer has since been reassigned to administrative duty, pending the outcome of an investigation. It nonetheless spread around social media, being viewed nearly 2.5 million times just through a version produced by social news outlet NowThis.
Ricardo Rossello, the governor of Puerto Rico, wants the officer fired. "He failed to deescalate the situation and therefore did not ensure a citizen's safety", Rosselló tweeted. The incident was also called racist.
'The United States of America is a nation that was built and thrives on diversity, ' Rosello continued in a separate tweet. We can not allow those who do not understand America's greatness to terrorize people due to their background.
"This is America", he says. "The Forest Preserves immediately launched an investigation into the incident", she tweeted.
Later in the video, Irizarry is shown asking a Cook County Forest Preserve District police officer for help in getting the man away from her.
