Toronto Chief of Police, Mark Saunders said a girl aged 10-years and a young woman of 18-years were killed in the shooting that took place at Greektown (Danforth) neighbourhood in the city, while at least 13 others were left injured.
The statement says the Sunday evening attack in Toronto's Greektown neighborhood had been carried out in response to Islamic State's call on its followers to target citizens of countries participating in a US -led alliance fighting the radical militia. An autopsy on the suspect will be conducted on Tuesday, SIU spokeswoman Monica Hudon said.
On Tuesday, Canada's Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said Toronto police investigators had found "no connection between [Hussain] and national security". "Sources say police in Toronto and CSIS officials in Ottawa, as well as the RCMP, are looking into his past, which sources say include his residence in Afghanistan and Pakistan".
The man accused of shooting 15 people and killing two on a busy, restaurant-filled Toronto street struggled with severe mental illness, his family said in a statement late on Monday as police sought a motive in the shooting spree.
Sinha said the association condemns Hussain's actions, but said discussing them exclusively in the context of his mental illness risks doing other patients a disservice. "We stand by the victims, the courageous first responders and all the communities affected by this tragedy".
Canadian crime expert Steve Ryan told network CTV that video showing the way Hussain held his gun while calmly aiming and firing suggests he had firearms training.
Canada overhauled its gun-control laws after the country's worst mass shooting in 1989, when gunman Marc Lepine killed 14 women and himself at Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique college. It is now illegal to possess an unregistered handgun or any kind of rapid-fire weapon. Gun ownership also requires training, a personal risk assessment, two references, spousal notification and criminal record checks.
Councillors approved a motion to urge the federal government to forbid the sale of handguns in the city and for the province to outlaw the sale of handgun ammunition in Toronto.

The U.S. intelligence community also proved that Russian agents attempted to meddle in the 2016 elections to benefit Republicans. Collins, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said that doing more to deter the Russians is a necessity.
After the rampage, Toronto Mayor John Tory said the city has "a gun problem in that guns are readily available to too many people". It passed on a 41-4 vote.
"I just want to be strong and honour these people who were lost", he said, adding going to Logan and Danforth at night was a regular activity for him and his friends prior to the shooting. Hussain was also shot, but it's unclear whether it was from his own gun or a bullet from police.
He said, "I think he wanted to impress those guys".
Julie, who lives nearby, said she was shocked and disturbed that a violent attack like the one on Sunday night could happen in Toronto, and for it to be so close to home.
Authorities identified the 10-year-old girl who was slain as Julianna Kozis of Markham, Ontario.
Canada has relatively strict gun laws and traditionally low levels of gun violence, particularly compared with its neighbor the United States.
