In court documents filed earlier Wednesday, the feds allege that Butina dated a 56-year-old American man - believed to be South Dakota GOP strategist Paul Erickson - for his connections to the Republican Party and the National Rifle Association and also offered another USA citizen sex in exchange for a position in a "special interest organization".
Butina's arrest was announced as Trump flew back from Helsinki to Washington, following an inaugural summit with Putin.
The DOJ charges that from 2015 through at least February 2017 Butina worked at the direction of a high-level official in the Russian government - Alexander Torshin, the state secretary-deputy governor of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation who was sanctioned by the Treasury Department in April - and at times with "an American political operative " (identified as U.S. Person 1) to "jointly arrange introductions to U.S. persons having influence in American politics for the objective of advancing the agenda of the Russian Federation".
The government also displayed a copy of a handwritten note uncovered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at Butina's apartment asking how to respond to an employment offer from a Russian intelligence agency, as well as a photo of her standing in front of the U.S. Capitol on the day Donald Trump was sworn in as president 18 months ago.
"The defendant's legal status in the United States is predicated on deception", they wrote in a filing Wednesday.
The report bolsters the DOJ's claim that Butina worked with a high ranking Russian official to establish a "back channel" between the USA and Russia.
Authorities have not named the Russian official, but details in the court papers match the description of Alexander Torshin, a former legislator who is now a senior official in the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
US Person 1 is not identified by name, but is widely believed to be longtime GOP strategist and gun rights activist Paul Erickson.
In a court filing calling for Butina's pre-trial detention, prosecutors disclosed Butina's alleged ties to Russian intelligence.
Butina was arrested over the weekend amid signs that she was planning to leave the country.

However, Gleason - who has been a trainer in law enforcement for 25 years - said this situation posed a real threat to officers. The chase had the officer driving on the wrong side of the road to avoid bullets, as other units joined the pursuit.
Prosecutors also detailed texts between the official and Butina in which the official compares her with Anna Chapman and asks if fans want her autographs yet.
Butina used a USA citizen, who isn't named by prosecutors but matches the description of political operative Paul Erickson, to gain access to an extensive network of Americans in position to influence political activities in the country, prosecutors said.
In documents seized by the FBI, Butina "complained about living with U.S. Person 1", they wrote.
Butina and the official messaged each other directly on Twitter, prosecutors said.
US prosecutors allege that Butina sought to cultivate close ties with the NRA as a conduit to the Republican Party during the 2016 presidential election.
Her lease on an apartment ends later this month and her belongings were packed at the time of her arrest, prosecutors said.
Torshin was placed under sanction by the Treasury Department earlier this year and is barred from traveling to the United States. This person was "instrumental in aiding her covert influence operation, despite knowing its connections to the Russian Official".
The Trump campaign did not agree to a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2016 as Erickson proposed, but Donald Trump Jr. did meet Torshin briefly that year at the NRA's convention in Louisville.
She added that the Russian Consul in United States was attempting to get access to Butina.
