A court-appointed lawyer helping to decide which of the seized files are protected by attorney-client privilege, said in a court filing Monday, July 23, 2018, that prosecutors got the recordings Friday after attorneys for Trump and Cohen dropped their argument that the files should remain confidential.The recordings were among many data files taken from Cohen last spring as part of a probe of his business practices.

The special master overseeing the privilege review of items seized in FBI raids of Cohen's home, office and hotel room in April said in a court filing Monday that the tapes were given to federal prosecutors in Manhattan after parties withdrew their designations of privilege, report the New York Times, Politico, the Associated Press and Reuters.

Giuliani said the brief recording shows Trump did nothing wrong.

"I know the substance of some of the tapes", Avenatti said on the program. But the recording is legal, according to NY law.

Another person, she writes, said that Cohen's own testimony could go right to the key issues in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

The same day, Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani said Cohen had recorded a conversation in which the president had discussed a potential payment to squash the story of a former Playboy model who said she had an affair with Trump. Avenatti has a history of taunting the president with claims to have more information on Trump's alleged indiscretions.

At a roundtable Sunday on ABC News, the lawyer for adult-film star Stormy Daniels said that the secret recording of Trump that was revealed two days ago is far from the only one made by Trump's longtime attorney Michael Cohen.

Avenatti did not go into detail as for what these "tapes" include, but apparently it doesn't appear to be good news for Donald Trump. It was not clear where Trump and Cohen were during the call. That recording was among the more than 4 million documents the Federal Bureau of Investigation seized in April when it raided Cohen's properties. In New York state it is legal to record a conversation if one party consents.

Giuliani has said no campaign funding was involved in the discussion between Trump and Cohen.

McDougal has said she began a almost year-long affair with Trump in 2006 shortly after his wife, Melania, gave birth.

Pecker is also being looked at by federal investigators for possibly violating federal election laws for purchasing the story on Trump's behalf acting as supporter instead of news media organization when it kept the story from public view in the weeks leading up to the 2016 election. AMI purchased the rights to McDougal's story for $150,000 in August 2016.

The White House has said Trump denies having sex with Daniels.
