Claudio Bravo has suffered a serious injury in training this Monday and it's entirely possible that the goalkeeper will miss the rest of the season.
"Bravo has sustained an Achilles tendon injury in today's training session", City said in a statement.
This leaves City with the inexperienced Daniel Grimshaw as the sole second-choice goalie in the first-team squad.
No timescale has yet been put on the 35-year-old's return and he will now travel to Barcelona for specialist assessment later in the week.
City lost Kevin De Bruyne to a knee injury for three months last week.
Post Malone's private plane to make emergency landing after blowing tires
Malone performed at the VMA awards in NY on Monday night and took home the song of the year award for his hit Rockstar. Air traffic control officials decided the plane needed to burn more fuel before landing and directed it to fly to MA .
While Grimshaw is yet to make a single senior appearance, he signed a three-year contract at the club in June.
And for the club, it would be of great harm considering that Adrián Ortolá is no longer a third-choice option, having joined Deportivo on loan earlier this summer.
England Under-21s worldwide Angus Gunn was sold to Southampton in the summer and another goalkeeper, 19-year-old Montenegrin Arijanet Muric, has been loaned out to Dutch side NAC Breda.
Scans confirmed the severity of the injury and the Chile global will fly to Barcelona on Thursday to undergo further tests.
