Experts say the best was to prevent WNV is to get rid of the number of mosquitoes around your home by eliminating their breeding habitats. Stagnant backyard pools can be a big source of mosquitoes and should be maintained regularly. Make sure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens.
Residents should wear light coloured clothing, long trousers, long sleeves, as well as shoes and socks during peak mosquito times to prevent mosquito bites.
Use mosquito repellent on exposed skin.
