While Donald Trump Jr. has yet to be interviewed by the Special Counsel's office, many legal scholars do believe that he may have broken several laws in his drive to seemingly obtain damaging material on his father's opponent Hillary Clinton, which had been stolen by a hostile foreign power.
In one of a series of early morning tweets, the U.S. president issued in apparent reaction to a CNN report, Trump said: "Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower".
In a tweet about that report on Sunday, Trump said, "This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere".

Sekulow said the important thing was that Trump's legal team shared accurate information with the special counsel.
Trump has recently come under fire for his own role in the 2016 meeting, as former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen claimed that the president knew about the meeting in advance - something Trump has previously denied.

The declaration that the meeting was indeed to get information on Clinton does open the door to this meeting being an attempt by Russian Federation to influence the outcome of the election, and in spite of Trump's claim that it was legal, still opens the possibility of crimes having been committed. However, he said only Mueller can determine whether the evidence rises to the level of criminal activity that is "beyond a reasonable doubt". Trump's lawyers acknowledged in a letter to Mueller's team in January 2018 that Trump dictated the response, according to the Times.

There have been no reports that information about Clinton was offered or exchanged. Trump railed again Sunday about Mueller's probe, calling it "the most one sided Witch Hunt in the history of our country".
