The new Core i9-9900K marks the very first time Intel has introduced an 8C/16T processor in the mainstream desktop market, with the CPU having a base clock of 3.6GHz and boost clock of 5GHz when in single/dual operation.
The spotlight continues to remain on Intel's 9th Gen launch this week.
Built upon the same "14 nm++" process technology as Coffee Lake, this new 9th generation is launching with 3 new processor models.
Nevertheless, Intel's enthusiasm is understandable. It has a base frequency of 3.6 GHz rated at 95W TDP, and it improves on previous generations with a turbo boost up to 5 GHz on two cores instead of one. These SKUs finally bring core-count parity with AMD's first and second generation 8-core Ryzen CPUs in the mainstream space. For the ninth generation, the improvements essentially boil down to adding more cores while keeping the clock speeds and power consumption mostly the same as before. All three SKUs have the same TDP, are unlocked for easier overclocking, and use solder underneath the integrated heatspreader. This processor ships in a new dodecahedron-shaped box which Intel thinks buyers will want to show off.

The defending Serie A champions' tweets were widely panned on social media as "dismissive" and "insensitive". Meanwhile, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has opened an investigation into the matter.
Intel has dropped hyper-threading on its lower-end, budget processor before, but this is a high-end processor meant for gamers and creatives. There's also a new Xeon chip, the Xeon W-3175X, for use in workstation PCs to support highly specialized hardware and software such as ECC memory.
The Intel Core i9 9900K processor is aimed at desktop-based enthusiasts and Intel is claiming that this is the "the best gaming processor in the world". Since those prices are for bulk orders, street pricing will likely end up a little higher.
This gives the Core i9-9900K an all-core boost of 4.7GHz, which should give that chip a nice nudge over all previous CPUs in the family. The processors are available for pre-order now at several retailers and will be widely released on October 19.
