A Russian Su-27 fighter jet has intercepted a US Navy EP-3E Aries spy plane over the Black Sea and escorted it away in compliance with security and safety requirements, Russia's Defense Ministry said on Monday.
US Navy said that such maneuvers of the Russian aircraft endanger pilots and crew of the American Board.
The US Navy also noted that the jet's actions caused turbulence and vibrations for the spy plane's crew.
The Russian plane stayed around the EP-3 for about 25 minutes, according to the US Navy, which insisted that its aircraft was "operating in accordance with global law". Washington stated that the SU-27 made a flight in which it broke the sound barrier near the ER-3 and, in its opinion, put at risk the lives of the pilots of the US aircraft.
The US has released a video of the incident.
The EP-3 is a electronic warfare and surveillance plane used by the US Navy. We expect them to behave within global standards set to ensure safety and to prevent incidents, including the 1972 Agreement for the Prevention of Incidents On and Over the High Seas (INCSEA).

In what the US Navy is calling a risky manoeuvre, a Russian Sukhoi fighter jet intercepted a US Navy aircraft multiple times over the Black Sea airspace.
Russia's embassy in the United States issued a statement insisting its fighter had "followed all necessary safety procedures".
American officials were not initially able to determine if the Russian aircraft was armed or not.
"The fighter's crew reported identifying the USA electronic surveillance plane and escorted it to prevent a violation of Russia's border, while following all the safety guidelines", the Ministry stated.
And in June past year, an Su-27 closed in on the wing of a U.S. RC-135U reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea at high speed, U.S. European Command said at the time. A Su-27 fighter jet took off from the nearest airfield of the on-duty air defense unit.
