"We built Google Allo, a smart messaging app, to help you get more done in your chats and express yourself more easily", Google vice president Matt Klainer explains. Google writes, "Allo will continue to work through March 2019".
In a post on its official blog, Google laid out a simplified messaging strategy for the future.
Allo is the latest in a series of cross-platform messaging apps from Google to compete with the likes of Whats App and Facebook Messenger and offered consumer-facing features like stickers and encryption. At its height, the app had the attention of less than 50 million users.

Google had originally hoped that the more "kooky" elements of Allo would make it appeal to millenials, leaving Hangouts to take on a more organisational role for communicating between colleagues.
"Hangouts Chat and Meet are primarily focused on team collaboration for G Suite customers and at some point will be made available for existing Hangouts users, too". We're fully committed to supporting Hangouts users in the meantime.
We also know that Hangouts classic will be going the same way the following year, with those users also moved to Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat, two services that are now enterprise-focused.
Google has found itself with an overwhelming number of messaging options as it seems to throw stuff at the wall, see what sticks and call it spaghetti.
Regarding Hangouts Meet, the company recently launched the ability to organize meetings with up to 100 participants, making it easier for businesses to use.
